Nuclear Stress Testing
Nuclear stress testing is a non-invasive way to diagnose blockages in the coronary arteries. This test also gives a 3-dimensional picture of the perfusion and wall motion of the heart. Each test is performed at the NY Heart Center’s main office and Gouverneur offices using state-of-the-art dual gamma cameras. The nuclear department also has the ability to perform viability studies in addition to MUGA scans, which can accurately and consistently evaluate cardiac function.

A cardiac catheterization is the “gold standard” test for diagnosing coronary artery disease. This procedure is performed in the hospital by a NY Heart Center cardiologist. During a catheterization, a thin tube guided through the patient’s blood Bessel can help show problems with an artery, heart valve or muscle. In addition to helping with diagnosis, a cardiac catheterization may allow non-surgical treatment for coronary artery disease.

Treatments include:
Angioplasty using a catheter with a small balloon to open clogged arteries
Atherectomy using a special catheter to remove plaque from arteries
Blood clots may be treated with medication delivered by a catheter
Stents (small tubes) may be inserted in an artery to promote blood flow
